Is Xenical for you?

Xenical is a prescription medication that helps weight loss. It was specifically produced for the clinically obese or those whose excess weight causes medical complications such as high cholesterol and diabetes. If you are not sure if you are classed as overweight or clinically obese you can check your Body Mass Index. If your Body Mass Index (BMI) score is over 30 then you are classed as overweight. As Xenical is a prescription medication it is not for general use.

How does Xenical work?

Xenical works to reduce weight by stopping the absorption of fat into the body and controlling the fat intake.

What are the additional benefits of Xenical?

There are benefits to taking Xenical as well as weight loss which include:
Xenical can help reduce cholesterol (improves the HDL/LDL ratio)
Xenical can help reduce high blood pressure
Xenical can help reduce the amount of anti-diabetic medication needed
Xenical can reduce body fat.

Xenical Dosage

The dosage of Xenical is that one capsule (120mg) should be taken three times a day with each meal.

There has been no benefit seen from increasing the Xenical dosage, and the prescription should be followed. Having to take one capsule with each meal makes it a convenient medication to take and easy to remember. If your meal contains no fat or very little fat then the Xenical will be of little benefit, as its action is to reduce the body’s absorption of fat. Taking a Xenical tablet with a very low fat meal will not be harmful though. You should not take any more than three Xenical capsules in one day. If you do happen to overdose on Xenical you may need to seek advice, but no harmful side effects have been reported. If you forget to take a dose of Xenical, just continue as normal and take the next dose of Xenical with your next meal.

How to discontinue your Xenical treatment

Xenical is classed as a non active medication which means that once you stop taking the weight loss medication there will be no trace of Xenical in your body after three days. Xenical should not be taken permanently but should only be used to aid weight loss. When you have lost sufficient weight with Xenical and you are happy you should carry on with regular exercise and a healthy diet to maintain your lower weight and better health. You can, should you need to use Xenical again, and tests have shown that you can use Xenical for up to two years continuously.
