Making the decision to take Viagra

Here at USAmedix we understand that people that have not taken Viagra before as a treatment for impotence, may find it hard to make the decision on whether to try Viagra. The information at USAmedix on Viagra will help you understand more about Viagra to reach a good decision. We have aimed to provide answers to the most commonly asked questions about Viagra, but if you would like more information on a Viagra topic, you can seek advice from your doctor or the USAmedix doctors will be happy to help. The Viagra guide below, which has been compiled by USAmedix, is only an outline of the main information that you need to know before taking Viagra and it must be not be used as a comprehensive guide. If there is any aspect of taking Viagra that you are concerned about please contact your doctor before ordering.

Do you need to take Viagra?

Viagra is a drug that has been developed by the pharmaceutical company Pfizer, to enable the treatment of men with impotence or erectile dysfunction. This medication is available by prescription only and should only be taken if and when you desire to have sexual intercourse. Viagra will only be active when the man is sexually aroused which may be either physical or visual, but there needs to be sexual stimulation for the Viagra to take effect. At USAmedix we only prescribe Viagra for men, as Viagra is not for women and we will not issue prescriptions to females. We also advise that Viagra is not taken by women under any circumstances. Studies of Viagra usage in women have not been carried out by Pfizer and therefore it is not recommended. But USAmedix will keep you updated with the developments into new products that are designed for women, currently known as Intrinsa, which is a type of testosterone patch.

Very Short History of Viagra

Viagra did not start of as being a drug to treat impotence but it was developed as a medication for high blood pressure and hypertension. But when the scientists at Pfizer started to do the clinical trials on Viagra they realised that they had developed a drug that potentially could change sexually history across the world forever. During the trials of Viagra it was noted that one of the side effects was that impotent men were getting erections when they took Viagra.

How does Viagra work exactly?

Viagra helps men with impotence or erectile dysfunction to get an erection when they become sexually stimulated. Viagra works in the body by causing the smooth muscles in the penis to relax which allows there to be an increased blood flow into the penis. The active ingredient of Viagra is called Sildenafil which is a PDE5 inhibitor. This is what causes the increased blood flow into the penis. Viagra is helped by the body’s natural processes when stimulated which makes the penile arteries relax. When the arteries in the penis enlarge and are filled with blood the veins which would normally carry the blood away from the penis are compressed which restricts the blood flow out. This then causes an erection and the effects of Viagra will keep the erection and normal sexual intercourse can be carried out. It was often thought that impotence was a psychological disorder in men but the invention of Viagra made it clear that although some impotence problems can be caused by psychological problems, most cases are due to the nerves and blood vessels in the penis. If these nerves and blood vessels in the penis do not function correctly then it can cause impotence, which is now successfully treated with Viagra.

How long does Viagra work for?

In clinical studies it has been shown that Viagra works successfully on around 80% of patients and will become active within an hour. Viagra is one of the quickest impotence medications on the market to start to work. Depending on the patient, the average time that Viagra is active for is 4 hours. From our research at USAmedix we have seen that sometimes patients feel that there is too much planning involved around sexual activity when taking Viagra. There are other impotence medications available at USAmedix, such as Cialis which does show that it can last up to 36 hours. Our feedback at USAmedix from patients has shown that in some cases it can take Cialis longer to take effect than Viagra though.

What is the Viagra dosage?

There are 3 different dosages of Viagra available from USAmedix of 25mg, 50mg and 100mg. The manufacturers of Viagra, Pfizer, recommend that the starting dosage for Viagra is 50mg, and we here at USAmedix agree with this. The USAmedix doctors agree that you should always start at this dosage and adjust accordingly to find the level that suits your situation. When taking Viagra, just as any other prescription drug, you must follow the guidelines given to you by your doctor. Viagra should be taken about an hour before any sexual activity, as a single tablet that is at the correct dosage. Viagra can be taken with or without meals. USAmedix recommend that the information that is supplied with the Viagra is read carefully before the tablets are taken.
