Football great Pele commented on the form of the present English Football team saying that they are on the list of most probable winners of the Football World Cup in ’06 in Germany. He was in the UK to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award given to him by the BBC. He did not say what he felt about them winning the World Cup but he said that they are good contestants for a place in the final. He felt that over the last two years they have put on a good show on the field.
In his opinion, the three top teams of the world are England, Italy and Brazil. Each player had contributed to the team’s success over the past two years. By his estimation if none of the players break the bones, legs or hands either of the three teams should play against each other for the Trophy in ’06. He said from the entire team the one who had affected the teams performance most was Wayne Rooney. He was the star player in Manchester United.
In addition, he mentioned that his very own countrys Ronaldo will play for Brazil in the World Cup in 2006. Ronaldo was doing well until he was hurt last year. Perriera, another Brazilian footballer, was on the list of players who would play for the World Cup the coming year in Germany. The strength of his own countrys team has been on his mind. His concern lies that the right combination of players be chosen and put to play. The team’s coach has a Herculean task ahead of him to choose the final team out of the host of talent that is available to him from all corners of the nation. He thinks that the option that the coach has is a privilege for any coach to have. To choose wisely is the next step.
Pele received his award from this year's Coach of the Year. He later spent sometime with Jose Mourinho. Pele said that his coaching was good and he had both age and foresight of the game and its development in mind. Mourinho though was quite meek in the presence of the soccer star. He said that he would rather have the guarantee of a win for their next match up against Arsenal than the award he got. He said that his team was celebrating at their Christmas party. He said that they deserved to party after the hard work they put in all year. The award, he said, belonged to them not him.
Pele scored seventy seven goals in ninety two games that he played for Brazil.
