Golf:
Catriona Matthew broke and re-set her highest ranking ever (10) towards the end of the season. Along with this she finished fifth in the tour. It was third year within the past four in which she has come third in the US tour. Annika Sorenstam of Sweden closed her season with four wins and a fifth place on the list of most money won amounting to one and a half million dollars.
A mere five participants of the twenty-seven who initiated the Ladies European Tour have earned an opportunity to play for next season after the final round which will take place in Spain in Costa Del Sol. The decision came after 54 holes. Only those in the top 50 were taken in for the next season. 22 participants from the UK have lost their chance to continue on the next years tour. The top thirty in this list enter the tour next year enjoying all privileges while the last twenty are taken on the tour conditionally. In this list of fifty are Clare Queen, a Scot and Dabnielle Masters from Kent. They came second and fourth respectively. The remaining three Fame More, Sarah Heath Colin Grady are still in the running.
Lacrosse:
Englands lead Coach has in mind a number of player from the other side of the ocean. Dave Elwood wants to include them in his team. He has been in touch with nine of them. He also has about twenty other players from outside the country in mind. They will hopefully be a part of the team to play in Ontario next mid-July.
Hockey:
The NL’s Premier Division teams Reading and Loughborough Students will play against each other for the fifth round of the Men’s cup.This is due to the yesterdays match concluding in a draw. Non NL affiliated team Chichester will have a hard day at their match with Guildford.
Tennis:
After being shot twice after an altercation in Ukraine, Andrei Chesnokov has been released from the hospital where he was admitted for treatment. He is the first from his country Russia to reach the top ten world rating in the last decade and he came upto the semifinals in the ’89 in the French Open.
Bowls:
Mark Walton from Nafferton, Yorkshire and Amy Monk House from Grimsby are in high spirits. They are taking part in the Champions of Champions Singles title and they are both enjoying a good run. With five more games to go, Walton, with a sole loss in his track record in the tournament so far, is looking good. He is first name on the list in that division in the tournament. Monkhouse is fighting for the top spot in her division with Sharon Sims, Nor Iryani Azmi and Esther Sanchez.
Ice Hockey:
The new main coach of Sheffield Steelers will be made public today. It is an anticipated move to bring in Dennis Maxwell to replace present coach Paul Heavey who left the post because he rejected the contract terms he was offered by the team management. The racers won the final match on Sunday night (3-1) at Cardiff. Due to the incertitude of their home rink they had to leave the Elite League. The owner had been making efforts to put his team members on safe ground by looking out for new teams for each of them. He has got Nathan Rampell into Cardiff so far.
Cycling:A B test conducted on Roberto Heras will most probably steer him clear of an alleged doping offence which he was suspected to have. He is being tested for erythropoietin (EPO). It boosts the blood. Spaniard Heras, who has previously ridden with Lance Armstrong in the same team said that the lab tests were faulty and that he is indeed guilty, as he had been charged.
Skiing:
Hilde Gerg announced her retirement after a knee injury has injured her during training. She is a participant in slalom races. She hails from Germany.
