With foreign and domestic investors buying new homes in popular locations with increasing frequency, demand for properties in France continues to ride high. France seems to be the leading European holiday destination and continues to be an attractive proposition for investors.
It is thought that nearly 85,000 UK residents own a holiday home in France. Larger cities continue to attract buyers in their numbers, with over two million people having moved into urban French areas since 1997. There is concern that the development of the French property market may not be sustainable in the long-term. Environmental groups are also worried that all the recent construction might have a negative effect on the French coastline. The environmental group stresses that more needs to be done to prevent the situation from worsening.
According to the well known international environmental group, the construction of 250,000 new houses has been approved along the French Riviera. In addition there are also to be 35 new golf clubs and 35 sailing ports. The local councils get most of their income from taxes and fees associated with construction.
