The Cancer Research Centre In the UK says that many people are putting themselves at risk for skin cancer as they spend their holidays skiing in the snow. The Ski Club in the UK has come out with a report warning all skiers that the snow can burn them.
Surveys report that 65 per cent of people have sunburn by indulging in winter sports in spite of knowing that in higher altitudes the ultra violet rays are stronger. The head of the Cancer Research Centre says that it is unfortunate that so many people get sunburnt while enjoying the winter games. Unconsciously, people who never go to the beaches make it to the hills. They do not realise the strength of the sun in the slopes.
Exposure to the strong UV rays causes skin cancer in people. Thus making it very important to take protection against the UV rays as the suns rises high in the sky.
Experts say that every year close to 100'000 new cases of skin cancer are identified.
The following are some tips provided by the Cancer Research Centre for protection against the sun.
Applying sunscreen early morning and in the afternoon is very important.
If you are sweating then, apply sunscreen every two hours.
Always keep small and handy packs of sunscreen tubes along with you all the time.
On the sensitive areas like the nose, lips and the ears wear sunblock like zinc cream.
Pick up sunscreen, which protects against UVA and UVB and has the factor 15 mentioned on it.
Always go for sunglasses, which give 100 per cent protection to the eyes.
