A caution has been sent to the Kashmir valley by the Jammu and Kashmir government against the spreading avian flu. People in the state have been asked not to buy birds. An official from the state department on Wildlife protection said that although there is no looming fear in India, the WHO suggests cautiousness.
Since migratory birds are the carriers of the bird flu, the wild life department is being alert. People, living near water bodies have been asked not to leave their ducks in wetlands and use water, which might be infected by the diseased or dead birds.
The Wildlife Department asked people not to slaughter birds near wetlands, near paddy fields, local ponds or water logged areas. They have also urged people not to get involved in the illegal trading of birds. Apart from being an illegal activity it can also spread the avian flu infection and kill people.
