Alcohol A Killer In UK

The British government is ignoring the alcohol problems among its people which is killing them faster than all other Europeans. Recent research shows that the rate of liver cirrhosis is more common among the British people than other Europeans. The research team said that drinking problems have become rampant among British people and new licensing laws are of less help. This is due to the increased consumptions of alcohol since the 1960s.
The results of the research, which were published, reported that deaths due to liver problems have increased dramatically. Liver cirrhosis has caused many deaths in England and the nighbouring areas. The death rate has increased among women too by half.
In other European countries like Finland, Ireland and Holland, deaths due to liver problems rose from 1991 to 2001. The death rates in Sweden, Denmark, Italy and France have not increased. The report mentioned that from 1957-1961, the death rate increased from 3.4 to 14.1 in every 100,000 men and in 1997-2001 the death rates have risen from 2.2 to 7.7 in every 100,000 women.
The researchers mentioned in a magazine that Britain has the lowest death rates due to liver cirrhosis among the European countries but that too has been eroded. Liver cirrhosis deaths are most common among the Scottish people. However, the mortality rates are increasing among men and women in Britain. The article mentioned that this problem needs to be addressed immediately.
Experts from the University of Stockholm say that the Government is not concerned in controlling the problem. Experts say that although the sort of beverages could be a contributing factor, the risk is mainly due to the increased alcohol consumption among people. Experts believe that government has failed to reduce the alcohol intake of the people in their policies. Moreover, new licenses and guidance from the officials are failing to curb the local governments hands in dealing with alcohol.
The licensing laws have been extended to the pubs and bars across England to serve alcohol at all times. Experts say that alcohol is responsible for other conditions like impotency and heart problems as well as liver cirrhosis. The health department in the UK has said that they will introduce new measures and they are investing in dealing with these alcohol problems.
