Anti Gambling Head fears an Influx of Poker Machines

Written by JDPGlobal | Tuesday, 20 September 2005

The poker industry seems to be on the verge of booming in Australia. Nick Xenophon, an independent South Australian parliament member and the head of the anti gambling organisation 'No Pokies' has said that the count of poker machines ('pokies') will soon rise in South Australia.

He expects that the loopholes in the gaming law will be exploited to the advantage of the poker and gambling industry. This would mean that organisations licensed to be community-based clubs could host poker games and also operate poker machines.

There is also another opinion around saying that clubs would still be required to satisfy a lot of strict regulations. This would be a stumbling block for the idea of the head of the anti gambling organization who had hoped to block completely the influx of poker machines into the territory. Though nothing could be finalized, it may be that this so called loophole may not bring in so many pokies after all.
