Poker helps Executive win

It was a good gamble for a company executive Pat Poels, when he decided to leave his high profile job and decide to play poker. As in the poker world series he won a gold bracelet and $270,000 in cash. He won the poker championship in Omaha. And in the 36th poker series he received $28,000 as additional income.
Things were not rosy a few years ago for him. Poels came across poker while on a holiday in Las Vegas. It was five years ago. He started playing as a rookie, winning some and losing some. However, a book recommended by a friend helped him improve his game.
Poel says that somethings just requires luck but in the case of poker there is skill involved too. Becoming a poker professional was a decision he took after years of study and practice. For four years he played as a semiprofessional player while working as a ticket master in Phoenix.
His wife is his biggest supporter and helped him in shaping his career as a poker player. As a father of three sons he was skeptical about leaving his job.
Even though Poels makes a lot of money from big tournaments, the bulk of his money comes from live games as a lot of betting happens on live games. He added that live games give fame and put a person on TV. However many of the best players do not play in tournaments.
