Over the Counter Drugs and Rape

The Metropolitan Police in London have launched Operation Matise which is looking into the sale of drugs often used to commit rape. The police said that they would investigate the sale of drugs like GHB or Rohypnol, which are sold over the counter.
Rape victims have often been discovered to contain traces of such drugs and, unfortauntely, doctors have seen an increase with this phenomena. The task force, which is working with ten police forces around the country, will ask the victims to fill in questionnaires and take blood and urine samples from them to detect the presence of any other over-the-counter drug, (traces can remain in the system for a period of months).
The final report in this year long study will be available in approximately six months; the result is expected to be a clear indicator of the presence of drugs in rape cases.
