3 New Products Feature In The Promotion List Of Managed Care Pharmacy

According to Cognet-X Inc data, new drugs to treat diabetes and nerve pain were included in the most encouraged prescription products to leading managed care pharmacy directors. Byetta and Symlin are diabetes treatments that are promoted by the Amylin Pharmaceuticals Inc. Byetta is an injectable medicine to treat type 2 diabetes, was the third most-promoted brand, as per Cognet-X’s PAR-Rx (Promotional Assessment Research) Report ™.

Amylin's Symlin is an injectable agent for patients who have diabetes with type 1 and type 2. Symlin comes at number six in terms of contacts to PAR-Rx panelists. Pfizer Inc.’s Lyrica, which is the latest treatment for nerve pain was ranked fourth in terms of contacts. Lyrica is known to cure pain due to diabetic peripheral neuropathy and post-herpetic neuralgia, that is related to shingles. Lyrica is also capable of treating a form of seizures in adults. PAR-Rx said that the most promoted product to them was the combination cholesterol reducer Vytorin. It is marketed by Merck/Schering-Plough Pharmaceuticals. Vytorin adds the ingredients in Zocor and Zetia.

The products that have the maximum number of contacts to PAR-Rx panelists in 3Q 05 were Lexapro, Vytorin, Byetta and Lyrica.
