The Dr. Paschal Carmody has caused the registrar of the PSI to complain to the Health Department and ask for regulatory action to be taken straightaway. The accused practitioner was given a suspended sentence of ten months and was fined. He sold medicines without a license.
The registrar said that licensing was very important and that this problem should be dealt with seriously with the patient’s safety and safeguard in mind. There is no such system by which medicines can be sold and administered by which we would get better superintendence over the sales and practice.
The Health Department has said that it will soon be out with a set of laws to combat this situation. The registrar said that the PSI should be legally enabled to ensure these new rules. These should enable them to inspect various medical establishments and ensure that only the best quality medicines reach patients. The coming new rules and regulations will be offer much more than the present ones do.
