Online Poker in China

Written by JDPGlobal | Friday, 15 July 2005

Gambling has been illegal since the communist revolution. However, there is, (almost inevitably) going to be some level of underground gambling activity. Some estimates that JDP has looked at even qoute a figure of $45 billion being spent annually at underground casinos and gambling syndicates.

Currently online gambling, (online poker) has been growing at a rapid pace. Whilst the dot com catastrophe in 2000 culled numerous ventures, the online gambling community was quietly growing. The feeling is however that the marketplaces of Europe and the US are gingerly beginning to dry up. Welcome to China therefore.

Although the government is adamant about continuing the ban on gambling it does continue to thrive throughout the communist nation. According to some reports there are more than 750 foreign gambling websites which provide Chinese-language web pages.
